About

This process was first developed/invented by Keith Howard in the 60’s and is a spin-off from the computer world.

It is a surprisingly fast, safe and easy technique to master and once developed the plates can print an edition of up to 30 or more prints.

The etching is produced by laminating a plate with a light sensitive acid resist film (lamination is obtained by passing the plate and film through the press). The image (usually in the form of acetates) is then exposed to the laminated plate in a light box for a very short period of Light Units. Finally the plate is developed in a solution of water+ sodium carbonate. The plate is then ready for printing.

The image can be photographic, drawn or painted directly on the plate.

All materials for the course are provided; all that is required is for you to bring an image of your choice on two identical black A4 acetates (two identical acetates are required to obtain a dense black in the tonal areas).
